Description

the blue peterThe Blue Peter was launched in 1930, although the teak used in the construction of her hull was brought from Thailand in 1870.She was designed by Alfred Mylne and built by W. King & Sons of Burnham-on-Crouch.
She was named The Blue Peter for luck, after the 'P' flag, which is used for starting a race. The Blue Peter won over 50 races in the
following years, sailing out of The Royal Corinthian Yacht Club in Burnham-on-Crouch.

In 1999 she was found by her present owner, Mathew Barker, in Elba, and brought back to Italy, to Cantierie Navale Dell`Argentario, where
the boat underwent a major refit in order to restore her back to her original splendor. This process took nearly 3 years.

The Blue Peter races at many of the Mediterranean regattas with some great results, namely winning regattas in Cannes, Antibes and Palma.
Most recently she won her class in The Regates Royales in 2008

The Blue Peter can be chartered, for one day, a week or for the more competitive one of the 'Classic Regattas'.

History

Classic The Blue peter
The history of The Blue Peter officially starts in 1930, when she was launched, although the teak used in the construction of her hull was brought from Thailand in 1870. Alfred Mylne designed The Blue Peter in 1929, she was then built and launched by W. King & Sons of Burnham-on-Crouch in 1930. The name The Blue Peter was chosen for luck when racing, after the 'P' flag, which is used as the five minute signal before starting a race. The Blue Peter won over 50 races in the following years, sailing out of The Royal Corinthian Yacht Club in Burnham-on-Crouch.

After racing The Blue Peter for 6 years, her owner, Desmond Molins decided to change the boat quite dramatically by removing her bowsprit and lengthening her hull by some & Sons the rebuild. She was relaunched in 1938 and to this day remains true to the plans of that year. After this reconstruction Mr Molins continued to race The Blue Peter successfully for another 12 years.

The Blue Peter was sold in the early 1950's and taken to Italy. She continued to grace the various islands & seas of Italy for nearly 50 years.

In 1999 she was found by her present owner, Mathew Barker, in Elba, and brought back to Italy, to Cantierie Navale Dell`Argentario, where the boat underwent a major refit in order to restore her back to her original splendour. This process took nearly 3 years, but during this time The Blue Peter has also raced at many of the mediterranean regattas with some great results, namely winning her class at 'The Conde de Barcelona' and winning the prestigious 'Most Authentic Yacht' prize in St Tropez in 2002.
